Historic Green Vault tickets, prices & timed entry

How to book the Historic Green Vault in Dresden — 2026 prices, the 15-minute timed slots that sell out, what's included, and how to secure the time you want.

Updated August 2026 · Green Vault Tickets Concierge Team

The Historic Green Vault is Dresden's most sought-after ticket — and the only one in the city that regularly sells out, because each 15-minute slot admits only a handful of visitors. Here's exactly how tickets work in 2026 and how to be sure of your time.

What a ticket includes

A ticket admits you, at your chosen 15-minute slot, to all nine rooms of the Historic Green Vault, with an audio guide included. There is no fixed time limit once you are inside; most visitors spend about an hour among the treasures.

Our price bundles that timed ticket with our concierge service: securing a slot that often sells out, e-ticket by email to your phone, English-language support, and a full refund if the museum closes.

2026 prices and concessions

Adults pay the standard rate; students, seniors aged 65 and over and other concession holders qualify for a reduced rate on presentation of valid photo ID. Children up to school age enter free and don't need a booked ticket — just bring proof of age.

Because entry is capped per slot, the value of booking ahead is certainty: you choose the exact day and time rather than gambling on same-day availability, which in high season is often gone by mid-morning.

Why it sells out (and other Dresden museums don't)

The historic rooms are small and the treasures are shown without protective cases, so the museum admits only a limited number of people every 15 minutes and routes them through a dust-lock airlock. That strict capacity is what makes slots scarce — unlike the New Green Vault or the Zwinger, which absorb far larger crowds.

In summer, at weekends and during the Christmas-market season, the best slots go days ahead. Booking in advance is the only reliable way in.

Opening hours and closures

The Historic Green Vault is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, closed on Tuesdays, and closed on 24 and 25 December. Timed slots run through the day, with the last in the late afternoon.

The calmest times are the first slots after opening and the last of the afternoon; midday and the festive season are busiest.

Historic vs New Green Vault — which ticket?

This ticket is for the Historic Green Vault — the timed, mirrored baroque rooms. The New Green Vault upstairs shows more pieces in modern cases and is part of the general Residenzschloss ticket, with no timed slot. Many visitors do both; we can arrange the combined ticket.

If you have to choose, the Historic Green Vault is the more atmospheric and the more sought-after — and the one to book ahead.

Buying ahead vs at the door

You can try to buy on the day, but same-day slots for the Historic Green Vault are frequently sold out, and a wasted trip to a fully booked museum is a poor use of a Dresden day. Booking ahead guarantees your entry and puts an English ticket on your phone.

If your plans are firm, secure your slot as soon as you can; if they're loose, we can advise on the flexible options.
