Frequently asked questions
What is the Historic Green Vault?
It's the baroque treasure chamber of the Saxon kings, in Dresden's Royal Palace — nine rooms displaying around 3,000 works of jewellery, gold, ivory and gemstones, created by Augustus the Strong in the 1720s and shown without glass cases, as he intended.
Do I need a timed ticket, and do they sell out?
Yes. The Historic Green Vault admits a limited number of visitors per 15-minute slot to protect the treasures, so popular times sell out days ahead. Booking in advance is the only way to guarantee the date and time you want.
Is this the same as the New Green Vault?
No. The Historic Green Vault (this ticket) shows the treasures in reconstructed baroque rooms and needs a timed slot. The New Green Vault, upstairs, shows more pieces in modern display cases and is part of the general Residenzschloss ticket.
Why is your price higher than the museum's door price?
Our price includes the museum's timed ticket plus our concierge service — securing a slot that often sells out, English-language support, mobile e-ticket by email and a refund guarantee if the museum closes.
Can I take photos inside?
No — photography and filming are not allowed inside the Historic Green Vault, to protect the treasures and the mirrored interiors. The New Green Vault and the palace courtyards are more relaxed.
Do children need a ticket?
Children up to school age enter free; you don't need to book for them. Students, seniors and other concession holders qualify for the reduced rate with valid photo ID.
What else can I see at the Residenzschloss?
A single palace also holds the New Green Vault, the Turkish Chamber, the Giant's Hall armoury and the Coin Cabinet. Tell us and we can help you plan a combined visit.
